What does the hypnosis experience feel like?

Hypnosis is a term that is derived from the Greek word for sleep but it is  simply a state of relaxation and focused concentration. Hypnosis feels a lot like daydreaming, or simply relaxing for a few minutes on the couch after a stress filled day.

Does hypnosis really work?

.Yes. Yes. Yes. There are several  reasons hypnosis is so effective:

First, hypnosis teaches you techniques to become aware of your body’s physical response to stimuli, so you can handle change the way you react.  Our subconscious mind has learned many negative behaviors over the years that can be updated during hypnosis. Think about eating for example.   How many of us were taught we had to "clean our plate"? Now you know you are eating too much but it is so ingrained in your subconscious that you continue to clean your plate even though you know it is simply too much food.  Or, after being a smoker your entire life you have trained yourself to light up after each meal.  These unhealthy learning patterns can be relearned using hypnosis.  As a trained Clinical Hypnotist I can help you change these destructive learned patterns.

Is hypnosis an "altered state of consciousness?

I have never been a fan of that description of hypnosis. It sounds very "trippy"  I think this was propagated by the entertainment industry and it simply doesn't describe what we do in a clinical setting.   Hypnosis is a natural state that occurs in everyone’s life on a daily basis, even though we might not recognize it as such.Hypnosis is simply a state of relaxation and focused attention

Can everyone be hypnotized?

Hypnosis is a process of natural experience and learning with focused attention so everyone can be hypnotized. It is a myth that some people cannot be hypnotized; everyone has the capacity to relax, learn and be creative. People don't realize that we go in and out of hypnosis every day, all day long.  If you have ever been so engrossed in a movie that you don't even notice when someone enters the room, then you have experienced hypnosis.  If you are ever out driving and get to your destination and don't even remember how you got there, then you have experienced hypnosis. Before starting any hypnosis session I will answer all your questions and make sure you feel completely comfortable with the process so you will easily enter hypnosis to make  positive changes in your life.

Will you be controlling my mind?

This is a common misconception about hypnosis thanks to some cheesy Hollywood movies and Stage Hypnosis. During your hypnosis session, you maintain control the entire time.  At any point during the session, you can open your eyes, you can speak, can move, and do anything else you would like. The key to a successful session is TRUST.  You need to feel completely safe during the process so having excellent rapport with the Hypnotist is certainly key.  Not everyone is a good fit so if you are not comfortable with the hypnotist, I encourage you to find someone else to work with.  There is nothing "magical" or "scary" about what we do.  We simply assist you to get to a brainwave state where you can more easily change patterns of behavior that no longer suit you.

Is hypnosis safe?

Hypnosis is generally viewed as a safe process with no side effects. Did you know that many major hospitals and medical clinics use hypnosis for their patients?  It's true.  Baylor Medical Clinic, Mt. Sinai in New York, and Mayo Clinic are but a handful of medical establishments that promote hypnosis in patient care.  So, yes hypnosis is safe.
